Traffic in Jakarta has been a long standing problem that is yet to be solved. A number of effort with varying degrees of success has been tried by the local government of Jakarta. From building new roads, fly over bridges, underpass tunnels and busway special lane, have been done and somewhat became a temporary relief for the commuters. However, with time, and faster growth rate of cars and motorcycles populations, soon, the new roads, bridges and underpasses are also overwhelmed.

Efforts by private entities to provide information to the commuters have also been done by the radio stations, TV channels, and internet web sites. However, since this efforts are mostly a one way channel communications, the lack of relevant context is somewhat restrictive to the users.

Biolocate Indonesia, is bringing an effort to empower commuters by providing a collaborative environment to traffic information systems that would allow the user of traffic informations be also the contributors to the systems, simply by using the applications provided by Biolocate. Our FIREANTS (For In-context and Realtime Navigation and Traffic Systems) engine will collect the data provided by individual commuters, combined together with data provided by our partners (Bluebird Group and Radio Suara Metro). This different data sources, allows FIREANTS to build a map of traffic condition in Jakarta, which can be used by commuters to plan around known traffic problems.
